The Brian Jonestown Massacre

The Brian Jonestown Massacre has often gotten more attention for their antics than for their music. Admittedly, there’s plenty to talk about—rock beef with The Dandy Warhols, copious amounts of drugs, fights, and ego trips like no other. But behind the turbulent façade lies a band—always led by the psych-general Anton Newcombe—that repeatedly astonishes us with their music. It’s chaotic and eclectic, hypnotically beautiful, and terrifying all at once—simply some of the wildest and best you can experience live.

Whether experimenting with '60s psychedelia, garage rock, or noisy pop, The Brian Jonestown Massacre always sounds unmistakably like themselves. Under the leadership of Anton Newcombe, the band has existed in various lineups since 1990 and released 21 studio albums, starting in 1995. In 2004, the band's turbulent existence became the main focus of the documentary Dig!, which portrayed the band alongside the slightly less tumultuous The Dandy Warhols.
