Mac DeMarco has become bigger than himself. Today, he is, whether he likes it or not, an icon of slacker culture in which an entire generation (at least) sees itself. This status is something DeMarco has achieved by doing exactly what he wants. Whether it’s releasing a nine-hour album with 199 tracks like he did with One Wayne G in 2023, or once sharing his address so fans could come hang out at his house. Today, the legacy of his light drums, laid-back vocals, and wobbly guitars can be heard everywhere among artists trying to find the same borderland between soft rock and soul. But no one has ever come close to the perfectly balanced combination of sincerity and ease that Mac DeMarco masters completely.

Today, the Canadian Mac DeMarco, also known as The Prince of Indie, is one of the biggest artists in the alternative world, and now seems carefree in releasing music at his own pace. The collaborations, singles, and albums have been numerous, but one might argue that the album Here Comes The Cowboy from 2019 was his last pure studio LP. Now, there’s talk of a new album, and the forums are filled with alleged first-hand stories of DeMarco revealing what the long-awaited album is called. One thing is certain: Mac DeMarco will be performing at Fållan on October 31, and you don’t want to miss it.
